Follow the step by step tutorials for our Sun Visor Headband on our YouTube Channel - Mad Cap Hats. This is an original design created by Tori Capes, Certified Milliner for Mad Cap Hats, all rights reserved.
You can use the hats you create from our patterns for your personal or business use. The link to the step by step video for this lesson is

Lesson Two shows you how to make a Sun Visor Headband that is fitted. The Visor Pattern piece is the star of this fabulous piece of Sun protective headwear and the other pieces in this pattern are rectangle shapes of various sizes.
Lesson One shows you how to make this Sun Visor using Velcro at the back so the fit is much more adjustable. You can see the video tutorial for that lesson on our YouTube Channel
here.
The Sizes for drafting your pieces are outlined on the first pages of the 7 page pattern download. See the link in the blue type below.
There is a third video coming soon in this series which will introduce a full size brim with velcro closure. The link to the step by step video for Lesson Three will be posted here once it is available.
The Pattern is Compatible with Letter and A4 printers.
This is an experienced Beginner level sewing project that will inspire you to make more and gives instant confidence because the finished result is so lovely! Make sure that your sewing equipment can handle the layers of fabric. This pattern was designed to use various weights of summer fabrics, which are stabilized with interfacing.
Note - Links from this page will open in new windows leaving this main info/index page open for you. The links to the actual pattern files are below the printer instructions below. This is intentional so that you read these instructions and configure your printer settings correctly so that your pattern pieces will print to be the same size as ours! How to Download the Pattern - Setting up your Printer
1. Make sure you have a PDF reader on your device as the files will automatically open in your default PDF program. If you do not have a PDF program you will need to install one. "Adobe Reader" is a FREE program and it can be downloaded
here .
2. Print the files on Letter or A4 ... set your printer to print ACTUAL or CUSTOM 100% size in your printer dialogue box like the photo below. Do NOT have Fit or shrink or fit to page selected. Only Actual Size or Custom Scale (size) 100% for page size. Also check page margins in the Page Setup or Advanced tabs for your printer. Page margins should be set to 0.00 mm
Assembling THE PATTERN PIECES - Match up the circle halves and tape across the part of the page that has the pattern. In the video I use a glue stick and poster board to make a hard copy of the pattern that I can trace around rather than pinning and cutting through paper each time I want to make this hat. I recommend that you do this too if you think you will make multiple hats from this pattern.
NOTES about the PATTERN - A seam allowance of 3/8" or 1 cm is built into the black outline of each pattern piece. Each piece has an shadow outline. This shadow will allow you to use a larger seam allowance of 1/2" or 1.25 cm. You can make the pattern pieces deeper or a bit larger in fit but cutting to the shadow edge and maintaining a 3/8" or 1 cm seam allowance. Tip - Sometimes easing the band and visor pieces together can be accomplished better if you reverse the stacking order that I demonstrate in my how to video when you are sewing those two pieces together.
How to adjust the rectangle shaped pattern pieces for different head sizes - If you need help converting a specific head size please feel free to message me at madcaphats@gmail.com and I will try to help with that calculation. The FREE pattern package has a page of size recommendations including the measurements of the pieces used in the video.
